2011 Foundation Update

2011 was a memorable year for Clay's Foundation. It included the establishment of the Clay Wrege Charitable Foundation Golf Scramble. The scramble was conceived by Stephanie Watson and Michael Wrege. Many hours were spent in the planning and the solicitation of sponsors, gifts and participants. The big day was May 21. The day began with the interment of Clay's ashes. Knowing Clay's propensity for making everything fun and everyone happy, it was appropriate to brighten up the day with the golf scramble.

The turnout was fantastic. 126 golfers participated. 28 individuals or businesses donated items for a silent auction. Four golf courses donated rounds of golf as prizes. There were 34 hole sponsors.

The event was cut short by bad weather. Kindly, not a single complaint was uttered.

Following a fried chicken dinner and the silent auction, an after-party was held at Bearno's Pizza. Two bands entertained. The overall contributions (sponsorships, silent auction, putting contest and donations collected at the after-party) increased the Foundation's funds by $8,500. Another highlight of that same day was the award of a $1,500 scholarship from the Foundation at the Floyd Central Thespian Awards Celebration. Ghered Douglas was the recipient of the scholarship given in memory of Clay.

There were two other donations during the year. Power Ministries received $250 and World Vision Ministries also received $250.

The Foundation had approximately $17,000 at the end of 2010. The dispersements during 2011 of $2,000 were in keeping with the design of the Foundation to give at least ten percent of the value of the fund annually to scholarships or charitable causes in memory of Clay.

The end of 2011 has a fund balance of $22,860. This will allow for the awarding of another scholarship and actually an expansion of charitable giving in 2012. A special thank you and God's blessings to all of have contributed. The memory of Clay and the opportunity for good works continues due to your caring and generosity.
